Two cloudbursts in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district triggered flash floods and road blockades on Wednesday, but no casualties were reported, officials said.
The first cloudburst occurred in the upper reaches of the Kuntwara area, leading to a sudden rise in water levels in the local stream. The second cloudburst took place in the Drabshalla area, causing similar flash flood conditions.
Water from the cloudbursts inundated low-lying areas and damaged some roads, disrupting traffic on key routes. However, no loss of life or property has been reported so far, according to the district administration.
Teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local police have been deployed to assess the situation and carry out relief operations. The administration has advised residents to remain vigilant and avoid venturing near water bodies.
Kishtwar, a mountainous district in the Jammu region, is prone to cloudbursts and flash floods during the monsoon season. In July 2023, a cloudburst in the same district had claimed several lives and caused extensive damage.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted more rainfall in the region over the next 24 hours, with a yellow alert issued for isolated heavy showers.
