Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, a 15-year-old batting prodigy, made his international debut for India in the second T20I against England in Manchester on July 4, 2026, becoming the youngest player to represent India across formats and the youngest debutant from a Test-playing nation in T20I history at 15 years and 99 days.
Record broken
Sooryavanshi surpassed the long-standing records of Sachin Tendulkar, who made his Test debut at 16 years and 205 days and ODI debut at 16 years and 238 days, and Piyush Chawla, who debuted in Tests at 17 years and 75 days, according to CricViz. He also became the youngest-ever player picked for the Indian national side, breaking a 36-year-old record held by Tendulkar.
Path to debut
The teenager earned his maiden national call-up after a sensational IPL 2026 campaign with Rajasthan Royals, where he amassed 776 runs at a staggering strike rate of 237.30, including a century and five fifties. He finished as the tournament's leading run-scorer and smashed a record 72 sixes. Sooryavanshi also swept multiple post-season honours, including the Orange Cap, Most Valuable Player, Emerging Player, Super Striker and Super Sixes awards.
In the recent tri-nation series in Sri Lanka, featuring Sri Lanka A and Afghanistan A, Sooryavanshi made 211 runs in five innings at an average of 42.20 with a strike rate of nearly 201, including a best score of 94. He also smashed the fastest List A fifty in 11 balls against Sri Lanka A.

In List A cricket, he has 564 runs in 13 innings at an average of 43.38 and a strike rate of 176.80, with a century and two fifties, best 190.
He is India's top run-getter in youth ODIs, with 1,412 runs in 25 matches at an average of 56.48 and a strike rate of 165.72, including four centuries and seven fifties, best 175. At the U19 World Cup earlier this year, he helped India win the title and topped the run charts with 439 runs in seven innings at an average of 62.71 and a strike rate of 169.49, with a century and three fifties. He also hit 30 sixes, the most by a batter in tournament history.
