Jaiswal breaks Dhawan's record with second ODI ton
India's star batter Yashasvi Jaiswal continued his rapid rise in ODI cricket by becoming the fastest Indian to score two ODI centuries, reaching the milestone in just six innings. He surpassed the previous record held by Shikhar Dhawan (7 innings), followed by Kedar Jadhav (9), Virat Kohli (17), and Shubman Gill (18).
Jaiswal achieved this feat during India's third ODI against Afghanistan at Chennai on Saturday. His unbeaten 110 off 86 balls, laced with 14 fours and three sixes, powered India to a nine-wicket victory and a series whitewash.
Match highlights: Prasidh Krishna's five-wicket haul
Afghanistan, batting first, posted 218 all out, thanks to captain Hashmatullah Shahidi's 102 off 131 balls and Azmatullah Omarzai's 50. India's pace attack, led by Prasidh Krishna (5/23), dismantled the Afghan batting lineup.
In response, Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma (79 off 69) added 170 runs for the first wicket, effectively sealing the chase. Jaiswal and Shreyas Iyer (20*) then guided India home with more than 21 overs to spare.
Jaiswal on his approach and mindset
Speaking after the match, Jaiswal said he enjoyed his innings and was determined to bat deep after a strong start in the powerplay. He credited his success to focusing on his process and the clear communication from the team management.
“I just focus on my process, what is in my control and try to work hard as much as I can. And of course, there is always support from the support staff and they have been amazing to me,” Jaiswal said.
He emphasized converting good starts into big scores: “When it is your day, make it count. I was very determined today that I just need to keep my focus in and just keep trying to rotate the strikes. And if I get in, so I'll just make it count.”
