Zimbabwe name 15-man squad for Bangladesh ODIs; Kaia returns

Zimbabwe Cricket has announced a 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match One Day International (ODI) series against Bangladesh, set to begin on July 10, 2026. The most notable inclusion is batsman Innocent Kaia, who returns to the national setup after a gap of two and a half years. Kaia last played an ODI for Zimbabwe in January 2024 against Sri Lanka.

Squad Overview

The squad, led by captain Craig Ervine, features a blend of experienced players and emerging talent. Apart from Kaia's comeback, the selectors have retained the core group that featured in the recent series against India. The pace attack includes Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava, while spin duties will be handled by Wellington Masakadza and Brandon Mavuta.

Innocent Kaia's Return

Kaia, 32, has played 23 ODIs for Zimbabwe, scoring 612 runs at an average of 27.81. His return is seen as a boost to the middle order. Zimbabwe Cricket convenor of selectors, David Mutendera, said, "Innocent has been in excellent form in domestic cricket, and we believe his experience will strengthen our batting lineup against a strong Bangladesh side."

Impact and Expectations

Zimbabwe will be looking to improve their ODI ranking, currently 11th in the ICC standings. The inclusion of Kaia adds depth to a batting order that has often relied heavily on Ervine and Raza. With the 2027 Cricket World Cup qualifiers approaching, every series is crucial for Zimbabwe to build a settled combination. Bangladesh, ranked 7th, will be favorites but Zimbabwe's home conditions could level the playing field.
