The UT Education Department has finalised the interschool sports calendar for the 2026-27 academic session, with the opening phase scheduled to begin on July 15, 2026. The calendar outlines three distinct phases, each featuring a range of sports events for different age groups, culminating in the Annual Athletics Meet from January 20 to 24, 2027.

Phase One: July 15 Start

The first phase, commencing on July 15, will include competitions for basketball, football, kabaddi, volleyball, cricket, kho-kho, table tennis, chess, and tennis (under-14 category). These events are designed to kickstart the interschool sporting season across Chandigarh.

Phase Two: August 12 Events

The second phase begins on August 12 and will feature a broader range of sports for the under-14, under-17, and under-19 age groups. Events scheduled include hockey, baseball, netball, badminton, basketball, chess, cricket, fencing, football, handball, kho-kho, kabaddi, skating, squash, table tennis, volleyball, and yogasana.

Phase Three: September 21 Schedule

The third phase kicks off on September 21 with events such as archery, football, karate, boxing, judo, wrestling, shooting, cricket, softball, taekwondo, swimming, gatka, gymnastics, weightlifting, wushu, and cycling. These competitions will be held for different age groups as per the eligibility criteria.

Annual Athletics Meet in January 2027

The department will conduct the Annual Athletics Meet from January 20 to 24, 2027, serving as the highlight of the sports calendar. This event will bring together top athletes from across schools in the region.

Age Eligibility Criteria

Eligibility for participation is based on birth dates: players born on or after January 1, 2016, are eligible for under-11 events; those born on or after January 1, 2013, can compete in under-14 events; players born on or after January 1, 2010, are eligible for under-17 events; and those born on or after January 1, 2008, can participate in under-19 events. The calendar aims to provide a structured platform for young athletes to showcase their talents.
