At the iconic M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru kicked off their title defence campaign with a thrilling first warm-up game. The match showcased explosive batting performances, with Virat Kohli looking in fine touch and Jitesh Sharma stealing the spotlight with a blistering innings.

Thrilling Chase Sealed by Patidar's Heroics

In reply, Team Krunal chased down the target of 235 with flair. Devdutt Padikkal, pushing for a spot in the playing XI, struck a composed 63 off 33 balls. Krunal Pandya contributed a valuable 58 off 33, but it was RCB captain Rajat Patidar who sealed the victory with a stunning 74 off just 25 balls, showcasing his power-hitting abilities.

The match provided a perfect platform for players to shake off rust and get into competitive mode ahead of the grueling IPL season.

Coach and Players Reflect on Productive Outing

RCB head coach Andy Flower expressed satisfaction with the warm-up, emphasizing its importance. “It is always nice to get out of the nets and into competitive situations, so it was a really productive evening,” Flower said. “Some of the highlights were watching guys like Jitesh scoring 80-odd off 35 balls, and Rajat hitting beautiful shots as we know he can.”

Flower was particularly impressed by the younger talents in the squad. He singled out Abhinandan Singh, picked by RCB at the IPL 2026 Auction last December, who made his mark in the UPT20 league for Lucknow Falcons. “Some of the youngsters performed well too. Abhinandan was good with the ball, Rasikh [Dar] bowled well, and it was nice to see Vicky Ostwal and his skill with left-arm spin. So that was a great night’s work for everyone in the squad,” he added.

Krunal Pandya also shared his thoughts, highlighting Virat Kohli's positive intent. “Yeah, from batters, I guess Jitesh played really well today. Some of the shots were amazing. Tim David played really well. Venkatesh [Iyer] batted well, Virat batted really well you know, coming out and the intent and some of the shots. What Virat played today was amazing, looking good, which is a great sign for us. So fingers crossed!” Pandya remarked.

Title Defence Begins Amid Player Unavailability Concerns

RCB will commence their title defence at home at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, facing their trans-Kaveri rivals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, in the season opener on March 28. However, both teams are grappling with player unavailability issues that could impact their early campaigns.

RCB will be without Australian pace spearhead Josh Hazlewood for the initial stages of the tournament, a significant blow to their bowling attack. On the other hand, the 2016 champions Hyderabad have named Ishan Kishan as interim captain in the absence of Pat Cummins. They also face injury concerns, with Jack Edwards ruled out of the tournament and uncertainty looming over Sri Lankan pace recruit Eshan Malinga's availability.

As the countdown to IPL 2026 continues, this warm-up match has set an exciting tone, with RCB showcasing their batting depth and emerging talents. Fans eagerly await the official start, hoping for a season filled with similar fireworks and competitive cricket.
