Visakhapatnam: Thousands of devotees from various parts of north coastal Andhra Pradesh and a few parts of southern Odisha are participating in the annual three-day Sri Modakondamma Festival (Jatara), which commenced on Sunday, May 17, in Paderu of Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district. The festival began on a grand note with the ASR district administration and political leaders from various parties being the first to have darshan of the main deity by offering special prayers on Sunday morning.
Grand Inauguration and Procession
The event was marked by vibrant tribal dances performed by folk artistes from parts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, accompanied by chants praising the main deity. A large procession featuring the Utsava Murthi (processional deity) was organized by the Jatara organizers. Devotees in large numbers from various regions reached the temple from early morning, offering various delicacies to the deity and praying for universal well-being.
Illumination and Cultural Events
The magnificent illumination that lit up Paderu for the Jatara was a major attraction during the festival. Cultural events and music programmed throughout the day enthralled the devotees, adding to the festive atmosphere.
Security Measures
In view of tragic incidents that have occurred in parts of the state during festivals and Jataras, the ASR district police, revenue, and several other departments are taking additional measures to prevent any such eventualities during this festival. Hundreds of police personnel have been deployed at strategic locations for traffic regulation and to prevent possible untoward incidents during the three-day event.
