Officials confirmed that the e-tendering process has been finalized and the contract has been awarded to the selected bidder. The stadium will occupy approximately 1.5 acres within the larger sports complex. This development is part of the first phase of sports infrastructure at the site, which also includes plans for a skateboarding rink.
Addressing a Critical Gap
The district currently lacks a hockey facility that meets international standards. This gap has forced local players to travel to other cities for competitive tournaments and high-level training. The new stadium is designed to enable Greater Noida to host national and international hockey events, providing a significant boost to the sport in the region.
Existing Facilities and Challenges
The nearest comparable facility is the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium near India Gate in New Delhi, which hosted the 2010 Men's Hockey World Cup. Another option is the Shivaji Hockey Stadium in Connaught Place, which has synthetic surfaces used by national and club teams for training. Delhi Development Authority sports complexes offer additional alternatives, but the commute remains a substantial burden for players from Greater Noida and surrounding areas.
