ISSO and DP World PGTI Join Forces to Promote Golf
The International School Sports Olympiad (ISSO) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the DP World Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) to promote golf among students in international schools across India. This partnership aims to identify and nurture young golfing talent at the grassroots level, providing a structured pathway for schoolchildren to pursue the sport professionally.
Key Objectives of the MoU
The collaboration will focus on introducing golf as a mainstream sport in international school curricula. Under the agreement, ISSO and PGTI will jointly organize golf tournaments, coaching clinics, and awareness programs. The initiative is designed to make golf accessible to a wider student audience, breaking barriers of cost and infrastructure that often limit participation.
DP World PGTI, as the premier professional golf tour in India, will provide technical expertise, certified coaches, and access to its network of professionals. ISSO, which already conducts sports competitions for international schools, will integrate golf into its existing event calendar.
Benefits for Young Golfers
Students will get opportunities to learn from experienced coaches and compete in age-appropriate events. The top performers may earn scholarships or direct entries into PGTI developmental events. This partnership also aims to create a talent pipeline for India's future golf stars, aligning with the government's focus on sports development.
Speaking on the occasion, ISSO officials emphasized that golf teaches discipline, focus, and sportsmanship. PGTI representatives highlighted the importance of early exposure to the sport, noting that many successful Indian golfers started young.
Future Plans
The first joint event is expected to be held in the coming months, with plans to expand to multiple cities. Both organizations will work together to develop standardized training modules and competition formats suitable for school-level players.
This MoU marks a significant step in popularizing golf in India, especially among the younger generation. By combining the reach of ISSO with the expertise of PGTI, the partnership promises to create a robust ecosystem for golf development in international schools.
