Grandmaster Iniyan Pa returned to winning ways in the seventh round of the 360 ONE Global Chess Festival, currently underway at the World Trade Centre in Mumbai. He defeated Aakash Sharadchandra Dalvi to secure his sixth win in the Master's Section of the tournament.
Current Standings in Masters Section
With only two rounds remaining in this Swiss League event, Iniyan leads the standings with 6.5 points, a clear 1.5-point advantage over a group of five players comprising Dalvi, Boris Savchenko, Apoorv Kamble, Harsh Suresh, and Soham Kamotra.
Challenger Section Updates
Viresh Sharnath had been on a remarkable run in the Challenger section with six consecutive victories, but his winning streak came to an end in the seventh round as he was held to a draw by Nithin Babu. Sharnath now has 6.5 points, while six other players closely follow with 6 points each. The category remains wide open due to the tight clustering of scores.
Top seed in both the Challengers and Junior Masters, Madhvendra Pratap Sharma, has struggled with draws in the Challengers category, falling behind with only 5 points. However, in the Junior Masters, he stands as the sole leader with 6.5 points, while seven players trail with 5.5 points each. Madhvendra had won his first six rounds before conceding his first draw.

Key Game Analysis
Dalvi adopted the Nimzo Indian Defence against Iniyan and played aggressively from the outset, pushing his pawns on the kingside while his queen hovered around Iniyan's king. On the 18th move, Dalvi could have exchanged queens to maintain positional balance, but a wrong queen check and a clever knight sacrifice by Iniyan tilted the game in his favor. Suddenly, Iniyan's queen, rook, knight, and bishop were targeting Dalvi's exposed king, which had been weakened by early pawn advances. Although Iniyan missed an easier winning continuation, he checkmated his opponent on the 34th move with his queen and bishop.
The English Opening game between IMs Sammed Jaykumar Shete and Nitish Belurkar featured many interesting moments, with Shete attacking vigorously on the kingside. Shete missed several promising continuations, allowing Belurkar's castled king to escape to the queenside. After 58 moves, the game ended in a draw.
In an irregular opening, Sharnath played solidly against Nithin with the white pieces, maintaining equality without taking excessive risks. After gaining an advantage, Sharnath missed a winning opportunity in a rook and pawn ending, and the game fizzled into a draw after 58 moves.
