The Mysuru Range Forest Officer (RFO) has issued a notice to railway officials after 30 trees were felled along train tracks in the city. The incident has sparked concerns over unauthorized tree removal and environmental impact.
Railways Defend Action Citing Monsoon Safety
Railway officials have defended the tree cutting, stating that it was carried out in view of rail and public safety during the South West Monsoon. They claimed that only tree branches were trimmed to prevent accidents from falling limbs during heavy rains and winds.
RFO Takes Action
However, the RFO has termed the action as a violation of forest rules and has sought an explanation from the railway department. The notice demands details on the permission obtained for the tree cutting and the extent of the removal.
The incident occurred near the Mysuru railway station, where commuters and locals noticed the sudden disappearance of trees along the tracks. Environmental activists have also raised objections, calling for stricter enforcement of tree protection laws.
The RFO has warned of legal action if the railways fail to provide satisfactory answers. Further investigation is underway.
