Yugam International Leads CBSE Chess Championship After Round Three

Kanpur: Yugam International School has taken the lead with 6 points after the third round of the CBSE zone-A chess championship for girls from class 6 to class 8, held at Delhi Public School, Kalyanpur, on Wednesday. Around 65 girl students from 13 schools are participating in this two-day event. The remaining two rounds will be contested on the second day.

Inauguration and Guest Speakers

The championship was inaugurated by Richa Prakash, principal of the host school. Shreya Saxena, an ex-student of the school, was the special guest. She shared her personal chess journey and described the valuable lessons she learned from the game. Dilip Srivastava, secretary of the Kanpur Chess Association, highlighted the host school's contributions to chess and expressed gratitude to the principal.

After three rounds, the top five schools and their points are:

  • 4. Virendra Swarup Kalyanpur, The Chintels Kalyanpur, and Gardenia Public School (all 3 points each)

JNT U-12 Cricket Championship

In other sports news, selectors have chosen 180 players for the 14th JNT U-12 cricket championship for the Sigma Giplock trophy, to be held at Kanpur South ground from May 17. The JNT organization has arranged a three-day camp for the selected children at Kanpur South ground. Rahul Sapru, former Ranji Trophy captain, and Vikas Yadav, coach of the Indonesian cricket team, will teach the finer points of the game.

Player Distribution by City

According to Sanjay Shukla, the selected players come from various cities: Kanpur (91), Lucknow (36), Unnao (11), Varanasi (8), Aligarh (5), Sultanpur and Mahoba (3 each), Gorakhpur (4), and one each from Fatehpur, Ghazipur, Gonda, Auriaya, Ambedkar Nagar, Anpara, Basti, Etah, Jhansi, and Maudaha.
