The Punjab Government, in partnership with English Helper, launched an AI-assisted English learning programme on October 28, 2025, covering approximately 3.5 lakh students from Classes IX to XII across the state. In Jalandhar district, the programme is currently implemented in at least 30 government schools, including the School of Eminence on Ladowali Road.
Personalised Learning Through AI Assessment
Students take an online assessment that evaluates their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Based on their performance, they are placed in one of six proficiency levels and receive learning material tailored to their current ability. As students improve, they move to higher levels. According to Chander Shekhar, State Resource Person at SCERT, the aim is not only to improve English skills but also to build confidence and prepare students for future employment.
High Engagement and Progress Tracking
The implementation update reveals that 93% of enrolled students have completed the initial assessment and been assigned a learning level. More than half of the enrolled students remain active on the platform. Teachers monitor progress through digital dashboards, assign practice exercises, and review performance. The programme has helped many students improve by at least one English proficiency level.
Addressing Initial Challenges
Teachers reported that the programme initially faced challenges because many students and parents were unfamiliar with digital devices and online learning. Schools set up help desks and counselled families on using the technology. As students became more comfortable with the platform, participation improved steadily.
