The Indian Army, in collaboration with Tata Motors, is set to launch the 'Surya Green Himalayan Odyssey' on Friday, an 11-day electric vehicle (EV) expedition aimed at promoting sustainable mobility, environmental conservation, and national integration. The expedition will commence from Kasauli and conclude in Leh on June 22, traversing some of the most challenging and strategically important regions of Himachal Pradesh and Ladakh.
Flag-off Ceremony
The expedition will be flagged off from Kasauli at 6 am on Friday by Central Command GOC-in-C Lt Gen Anindya Sengupta. This journey seeks to demonstrate the capability and reliability of electric vehicles in remote, high-altitude Himalayan terrain while encouraging the adoption of green energy solutions.
Objectives of the Expedition
The Surya Green Himalayan Odyssey aims to highlight the Army's commitment to nation-building, environmental awareness, and strengthening ties with local communities. It also underscores the potential of electric vehicles in extreme conditions, paving the way for sustainable mobility solutions in the region.
The expedition covers diverse terrains, including steep ascents, narrow passes, and high-altitude roads, testing the endurance and performance of EVs. The collaboration with Tata Motors showcases the synergy between the armed forces and the private sector in promoting green technology.
The initiative is expected to inspire greater adoption of electric vehicles in the country, particularly in regions with challenging topography. It also aligns with the government's broader push for sustainable transportation and reduced carbon emissions.
