Signal Glitch Disrupts Green Line Services

Commuters on Bengaluru Metro's Green Line experienced significant delays during peak hours on Tuesday, July 9, marking the second consecutive day of disruptions. The issue was attributed to a signal glitch near the Majestic interchange station, which caused trains to run behind schedule and led to overcrowding on platforms.

According to Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials, the problem occurred around 8:30 AM and persisted until 10:30 AM, affecting services between Nagasandra and Yelachenahalli. Trains were delayed by 10-15 minutes, causing long queues at stations like Yeshwanthpur, Kuvempu Road, and Srirampura.

Commuters Face Repeated Woes

This comes a day after the Purple Line faced similar delays on Monday due to a technical snag near Baiyappanahalli. Many commuters expressed frustration on social media, with some reporting that they were late for work. "This is becoming a daily nightmare. The metro is supposed to be reliable, but these glitches are unacceptable," said Priya S., a regular passenger from Nagasandra.

BMRCL deployed additional staff to manage crowds and announced that repairs were underway. A senior official stated, "Our team is working to resolve the issue permanently. We apologize for the inconvenience caused."

Impact on Daily Commute

The delays particularly affected office-goers and students who rely on the metro for timely travel. Many opted for alternate modes like buses or cabs, leading to increased traffic on arterial roads. The BMRCL reported that normal services resumed by 11:00 AM, but the incident has raised concerns about the aging signaling infrastructure.

BMRCL Managing Director Anjum Parwez said, "We are upgrading the signaling system on the Green Line, but interim glitches are inevitable. We urge commuters to bear with us." The corporation has not yet specified a timeline for the full upgrade.
