In a significant crackdown on illegal arms trafficking, the Gangrar police in Chittorgarh district on Thursday dismantled a criminal network and apprehended four individuals, including the buyer of an illicit pistol. The operation led to the recovery of one pistol along with a magazine and two extra magazines from the suspects' possession.
Details of the Arrest
The arrested accused have been identified as Bablu Siklighar (24), a resident of Gangrar and the alleged buyer of the pistol; Deepak (24), a resident of Baran and the alleged supplier of the weapon; Nikhil (21) and Jitendra (26), both residents of Udaipur. The arrests were made based on a tip-off, following which a police team led by Gangrar SHO Shyamaram intercepted the suspects near Right Choice Hotel on the Bhilwara-Chittorgarh highway.
Recovery of Weapons
During the operation, police seized the pistol and a magazine from Bablu, while one magazine each was recovered from Deepak and Nikhil. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Arms Act, and further investigation is currently underway to trace the source of the weapons and any other individuals involved in the network.
Criminal Background of Accused
Police investigations have revealed that Deepak has a criminal record with approximately six to seven previous cases registered against him under the Arms Act, as well as charges of robbery and murder in Kota and Baran districts. Nikhil, another accused, had previously served jail time in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case. The police are now probing their links to other illegal activities and possible connections with larger arms syndicates.
Chittorgarh SP Dharmendra Singh stated that a special campaign against illegal weapons is underway in the district, and this operation is part of that ongoing drive. The police have urged the public to come forward with any information regarding illegal arms or suspicious activities to help maintain law and order in the region.
