The UT cyber police in Chandigarh have filed a case against unidentified individuals for allegedly defrauding a local resident of Rs 4.3 lakh. The victim was lured with promises of high returns from an online business opportunity. No arrests have been made yet in connection with the incident.

How the Fraud Unfolded

The complainant, Lokesh, a resident of Dhanas and a salesman at a private firm, reported the incident to the police. According to his statement, he was contacted on Facebook on March 31, 2026, by a woman who identified herself as Ishu Sharma. She later moved the conversation to WhatsApp and introduced him to an online business opportunity.

The woman allegedly instructed him to invest through a specific platform and sent a link to create an account. Trusting her, Lokesh transferred a total of Rs 4.3 lakh between April 15 and April 25. However, after receiving the money, the woman stopped responding to his messages. Realizing he had been cheated, Lokesh approached the cyber police and lodged a complaint.
