The Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) 2026, coordinated by the Indian Institute of Engineering Science and Technology (IIEST), Shibpur, is set to commence the counselling process for undergraduate engineering and architecture seat allocation from June 2. This process will cover National Institutes of Technology (NITs), IIEST Shibpur, Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs), and Government Funded Technical Institutions (GFTIs) through the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA) 2026 and CSAB 2026 rounds.

Core Committee Meeting

According to a press release, the core committee of CSAB/DASA 2026 convened on Friday to discuss the seat allotment mechanism under the NIT+ system. The committee, chaired by IIEST Shibpur director VMSR Murthy, includes professor Pratik Dutta as member secretary, along with directors from various NITs, IIITs, SPA, GFTIs, and representatives from the Ministry of Education.

Participating Institutes and Seat Capacity

This year, 114 institutes are participating in the JoSAA and CSAB 2026 counselling process. Approximately 48,000 seats will be offered through these rounds. Additionally, counselling will be conducted for Direct Admission of Students Abroad (DASA) candidates for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses. A special counselling round is also planned for students from the North Eastern states and Union Territories.

Online Process with Physical Reporting

The JoSAA 2026 and CSAB 2026 counselling rounds will be conducted entirely online, covering registration, choice filling, seat allotment, and document verification. However, physical reporting at the finally allotted institute will be mandatory for final admission. Seat allocation will be based on JEE (Main) 2026 ranks and fulfillment of eligibility criteria specified in JEE (Main).
