A 25-year-old software engineer was lured through a dating app, assaulted, and robbed by a group of individuals in Bengaluru. The incident took place on the night of October 14 in the outskirts of the city. The victim, a resident of Electronic City, had matched with a woman on the dating app and agreed to meet her at a location in Kengeri.
How the Incident Unfolded
According to police, the woman asked the engineer to pick her up from a secluded spot near Kengeri. When he arrived, four men emerged from the shadows, dragged him out of his car, and beat him severely. They then stole his wallet, mobile phone, and car keys before fleeing the scene. The victim managed to alert passersby, who helped him contact the police.
Arrests Made
Following a swift investigation, the Kengeri police arrested four suspects, including the woman who acted as the bait. The accused have been identified as Priya (25), Ravi (28), Suresh (30), and Manjunath (32). They belong to a gang that has been using dating apps to target victims for robbery. Police recovered the stolen items, including the victim's car, from their possession.
Police Advisory
The Bengaluru police have issued a warning to citizens, especially those using dating apps, to exercise caution while meeting strangers. They advise meeting in public places and informing friends or family about the location. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are checking if the gang is linked to similar crimes in the city.
