In a significant move for India's geospatial sector, Esri India unveiled a new software platform on Tuesday designed to democratize access to advanced satellite data analytics. The company, a leader in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), launched "Bharat ENVI," an image processing and analysis tool aimed at organizations nationwide.
Bridging Global Tech with Indian Data
Esri India, established in 1996 and serving government, private, academic, and non-profit sectors, stated that Bharat ENVI integrates world-class remote-sensing tools into the Indo ArcGIS ecosystem. This ecosystem comprises GIS systems specifically tailored for the Indian context. The internationally recognized ENVI software is renowned for extracting precise information from diverse data sources, including satellites, drones, LiDAR, and various spectral imaging systems. This launch makes these powerful capabilities directly accessible to Indian users within their familiar ArcGIS environment.
The primary goal of the software is to empower government agencies, private companies, and research institutions to leverage geospatial data more effectively for critical planning and management tasks. The integration with Indo ArcGIS is a key advantage, allowing users to tap into a vast library of Indian datasets and AI models housed in the Indo ArcGIS Living Atlas. This combined setup is poised to support a wide range of applications, from land-use planning and natural resource assessment to environmental monitoring and policy implementation.

Agendra Kumar, Managing Director of Esri India, emphasized that the introduction of Bharat ENVI will substantially strengthen the country's geospatial technology landscape. The company estimates that this integration will make ENVI tools available to a vast user base. Over 1.2 million ArcGIS users from more than 6,500 organizations across India stand to benefit.
