Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, inaugurated the first barrier-free toll plaza in the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR) at the Mundaka Toll Plaza on Urban Extension Road-II. The Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) based tolling system allows vehicles to pass without stopping, utilizing a combination of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras and FASTag-based electronic toll collection.
Key Features of the MLFF System
The MLFF system is designed to eliminate the need for vehicles to halt at toll plazas, significantly reducing travel time and fuel consumption. ANPR cameras capture vehicle number plates, while FASTag deducts toll electronically, ensuring seamless passage. This technology is expected to reduce congestion and improve traffic flow on the busy Urban Extension Road-II.
Inauguration Ceremony
Gadkari was joined by Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways, Ajay Tamta, and other senior officials at the event. In a post on social media platform X, Gadkari shared details of the inauguration, highlighting the milestone as a step towards modernizing India's toll collection infrastructure.
Impact on Commuters
The barrier-free toll plaza is expected to benefit thousands of daily commuters in the Delhi NCR region by reducing waiting times and enhancing the overall driving experience. The system is also anticipated to lower vehicle emissions by minimizing idling at toll booths.
This initiative aligns with the National Highway Authority of India's (NHAI) broader efforts to adopt advanced technologies for efficient highway management. The success of the MLFF system at Mundka-Bakkarwala could pave the way for similar implementations across the country.
