Gem Jewellery Incubation Hub at NIT Trichy

Trichy: An incubation hub for the gem and jewellery industry is set to be established on the NIT Trichy campus, aiming to provide innovation, entrepreneurship, and technology support in the sector. This hub is part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC), Mumbai, and the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development and Incubation (CEDI), NIT Trichy. The partnership has launched a joint venture named ‘JewelStart’, which will guide startups and local entrepreneurs in overcoming their challenges.

Facilities and Support at the Hub

The hub will be located in the old library block of NIT Trichy and will be equipped with facilities to offer end-to-end support for startups through pre-incubation, incubation, acceleration, and post-incubation growth plans. Beyond startups, the initiative will benefit researchers and students, enabling entrepreneurs and industry professionals to transform promising ideas into viable ventures. Support will include mentorship, technology assistance, business development aid, investor connections, and marketing opportunities.

Focus Areas

The proposed hub will concentrate on jewellery design and product innovation, as well as advanced manufacturing technologies for entrepreneurs, leveraging materials and metallurgical innovations. “The hub will also focus on digital transformation, sustainable and responsible jewellery practices for existing entrepreneurs. Export opportunities will be explored, and e-commerce options will be popularized. Startups’ problems will be identified and analyzed to provide solutions,” said Susil Kumar K, CEO of CEDI-NITT.
