Haryana Launches ShramMitra App to Replace Traditional Labour Chowks
Haryana Launches ShramMitra App for Digital Labour Exchange

Chandigarh: Haryana Labour Minister Anil Vij launched the 'ShramMitra' mobile application on Wednesday, calling it a transformative digital initiative aimed at modernising the labour sector and gradually phasing out the traditional labour chowk system in the state.

Key Features of ShramMitra App

Speaking at the launch event in Chandigarh, Vij explained that ShramMitra would function as an 'electronic employment exchange,' allowing workers to access daily job opportunities directly through their mobile phones, eliminating the need to wait at physical labour chowks. The app has been developed by the Haryana Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board.

It will be available in Hindi, English, and Punjabi, and can be downloaded free of cost from both Android and Apple app stores. Workers can register their skills, experience, and trade specialisations, including mason, carpenter, electrician, plumber, welder, painter, gardener, as well as self-employment professions like barber and cobbler.

How It Benefits Employers and Workers

Employers can upload job requirements and directly connect with registered workers through the platform. The app facilitates negotiation of wages, duration of work, and other conditions between both parties. With integrated geo-mapping technology, it provides real-time information about location, distance, and travel time, making the hiring process faster and more transparent.

Vij stated that data of nearly 75,000 registered workers has already been uploaded onto the platform. Labour department teams will visit labour chowks across Haryana to assist workers in installing the app. Currently, approximately 135 labour chowks are operational in the state.

The minister expressed confidence that this digital platform would eventually transform Haryana's labour ecosystem into a more organised, transparent, and technology-driven system, benefiting both workers and employers alike.
