Ahmedabad: The Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) officially inducted the new batch of its flagship Post Graduate Programme (PGP) and the PGP in Food and Agri-Business Management (PGP-FABM) on Wednesday. A total of 414 students joined the PGP programme, while 44 students enrolled in the PGP-FABM programme.
Diverse Backgrounds and Demographics
Among the PGP students, approximately 61% hold engineering degrees, while 31% of the batch comprises female students. The average work experience of the PGP cohort is 24 months, with nearly 77% of students having prior work experience, as stated in an official release by IIM-A.
In the PGP-FABM programme, all students possess academic backgrounds in agriculture or allied sectors. Women constitute 39% of this batch, and the average work experience is 16 months, with about one-third having prior work experience. The average age of students in both programmes remains 23 years.
Focus on Responsible Use of Technology
Prof Ankur Sinha, chairperson of the PGP programme, encouraged students to leverage technology and artificial intelligence responsibly. He emphasized that learning—not merely task completion—should remain the priority. Prof Sinha assured students of the institute’s unwavering support for their academic, personal, and mental well-being, while urging them to actively participate in campus life and make the most of their time at IIM-A.
Inclusive Facilities for Persons with Disabilities
Among the new batch, 17 students are persons with disabilities (PwDs). To ensure their seamless integration into classrooms, IIM-A has provided several facilities, including Apple iPads, automotive wheelchairs, specialized software, high-resolution cameras for laptops, and any other specific requirements requested by these students.
Establishment of School of AI
Prof Bharat Bhasker, director of IIM-A, highlighted the establishment of the School of AI at the institute, which aims to lead the transformation in artificial intelligence education and research.
