The Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam (IIMV) has witnessed a remarkable expansion in its executive education offerings. In 2020, the institute provided only eight executive education programmes to nearly 350 candidates. By the 2025-26 financial year, this number surged to 132 programmes, representing a 21% increase over the previous year.
Nearly 6,200 participants enrolled in these 132 programmes, marking a 22% rise in the number of trained professionals year-on-year. Women's participation increased by 26%, reflecting a growing inclusivity. Participant-hours reached 3.35 lakh, up from approximately 30,000 in 2020, registering a year-on-year growth of 15%.
This expansion underscores IIM Visakhapatnam's growing role in addressing high-end management training needs in Andhra Pradesh. Since the state's bifurcation, it has lacked a major institution for training civil services officers, scientists, and senior executives in management and emerging technologies. Over the past five years, the institute has hosted hundreds of All India Service officers through various programmes.
The programmes typically range from a few months to under a year and cover strategic management, artificial intelligence, business analytics, digital transformation, innovation, finance, marketing, operations, and leadership. Delivered through flexible online and blended formats, the courses rely on case studies and projects to impart practical, industry-relevant skills, enabling professionals to upskill or transition into leadership roles.
Apart from collaborations with multinational corporations, public sector undertakings, and private companies, several programmes offered by IIMV are sanctioned by the Union government. The institute was entrusted by the Central Vigilance Commission with capacity-building programmes in public procurement, through which hundreds of officials from various PSUs have been trained. It has also conducted programmes for officials from DRDO and L&T.
Corporate-focused programmes have been organised for entities including Hindustan Shipyard Limited, Bharat Electronics Limited, IOCL, HPCL, NTPC, Powergrid, Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, and Mahanadi Coalfields Limited.
Earlier, under Mission Karmayogi, IIM Visakhapatnam was entrusted by the Capacity Building Commission and the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India with conducting the Young Scientists Induction Programme for science and technology ministries.
Speaking to TOI, IIM Visakhapatnam director Prof M. Chandrasekhar said the institute has been scaling new heights in capacity-building for working professionals each year. "Owing to the expertise of our faculty, we have emerged as a preferred knowledge hub and a sought-after learning destination for professionals from both the public and private sectors," he said.
Citing recent initiatives, the director said IIMV completed a behavioural training programme titled HP Elevate for about 560 newly inducted officers of HPCL's Visakha Refinery. The institute was also selected as the training partner for the Andhra Pradesh panchayati raj and rural development department, through which 504 gazetted officers underwent a customised leadership and management development programme focused on efficient public service delivery. "Several of these programmes are conducted in multiple batches, reflecting the quality of course delivery, programme design, and the trust institutions have placed in IIM Visakhapatnam," Prof Chandrasekhar added.
