The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee has announced that students who do not meet the minimum Class 12 marks requirement can still participate in the ongoing counselling process for admissions. The institute, which conducted the JEE Advanced examination this year, clarified that candidates with less than 75 per cent marks in the General, OBC-NCL, and EWS categories, as well as those with less than 65 per cent in the SC, ST, and PwD categories, are eligible to fill their choices during the counselling rounds.
Seat Allocation Based on JEE Rank
IIT Roorkee emphasized that seats will be allocated based on the candidates' JEE Advanced rank, irrespective of their Class 12 marks at this stage. In a statement, the institute said, "You are eligible to fill in your choices at present and seats will be allocated to you based on your rank." This move provides an opportunity for students who may have underperformed in their board exams but excelled in the JEE Advanced.
Revised Scorecard Requirement
However, the institute also specified that such candidates must submit a revised scorecard meeting the required marks criteria by July 15. The required minimum marks are 75 per cent for General, OBC-NCL, and EWS categories, and 65 per cent for SC, ST, and PwD categories. Candidates need to send the revised scorecard via email to orgjee@iitr.ac.in. The admission will be confirmed only after the updated marksheet is received, and it will be granted against the seat allotted at the end of the fourth counselling round.
Context of CBSE Marking Issues
This update comes amid questions raised about the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on-screen marking system. Some Class 12 students have claimed discrepancies in scanned answer sheets and handwriting mismatches, leading to concerns over the accuracy of board exam results. IIT Roorkee's decision allows students to proceed with counselling while they work on resolving their marks issues.
