Kanpur Police Bust Gambling Den, Arrest 8, Seize Cash

In a coordinated operation on Saturday evening, the Kalyanpur police along with the Crime Branch dismantled a gambling den operating in a locked house in the Nankari area under the Kalyanpur police station limits of Kanpur. The authorities apprehended eight individuals and recovered cash amounting to Rs 3.83 lakh, along with playing card decks and several vehicles found at the scene.

Details of the Raid

Acting on a tip-off, the Crime Branch learned about a large-scale gambling operation being run from a locked house owned by Goyal Kumar Gautam in Nankari. The den attracted participants from across the city who placed bets worth lakhs of rupees. After verifying the information, the Crime Branch and Kalyanpur police jointly planned a raid.

Late Saturday evening, the police team swooped in on the house. Upon spotting the officers, the accused attempted to flee, but the police cordoned off the area and successfully captured all suspects.

Seizures and Legal Action

During the search, the police confiscated playing card decks and Rs 3,83,000 in cash used for gambling. Additionally, two cars, one motorcycle, and one scooter found at the location were seized. The authorities are investigating the ownership of these vehicles. The arrested individuals are being interrogated to uncover other members of the gambling network and determine how long the operation had been active.

Acting Station House Officer Rais Ahmad confirmed that eight people were arrested based on the intelligence received. Cases have been registered against all accused under the Gambling Act, and further legal proceedings are underway.
