Karnataka Coir Corp Opens First Showroom in Jaipur

Bengaluru: Karnataka State Coir Development Corporation Ltd (KSCDCL) will open its first showroom outside the state in Jaipur on Saturday, marking a significant step in its plans to expand and promote eco-friendly coir products, including Dutch mats.

The outlet, established in collaboration with a regional distributor, will stock around 6,000 Dutch mats along with other products, according to chairman Nataraj Janakiram. The first consignment was flagged off by chief secretary Shalini Rajneesh at Vidhana Soudha last week and has already reached Jaipur.

Expansion Strategy

Janakiram stated that this move is part of a broader expansion strategy, and the corporation plans to open showrooms in other states as well. KSCDCL has also appointed stockists and carrying and forwarding agents in Rajasthan, Delhi, and Gujarat.

Financial Growth

The corporation has recorded steady growth in recent years, with turnover rising from Rs 6.8 crore in 2021-22 to Rs 21.7 crore in 2025-26. It has set an ambitious target of achieving Rs 100 crore in turnover by 2026–27. Janakiram remarked, "It will not be a tough task if government departments procure coir products from the corporation."

Government Procurement Push

To strengthen sales, Janakiram has written to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah seeking directions for government departments and district administrations to procure coir products from KSCDCL. In one letter, he urged the Muzrai Department to supply coir mats to temples, noting that granite flooring can be difficult for devotees walking barefoot. He suggested that mats be laid across temple premises. He emphasized that purchases from the corporation would support financial growth and generate rural employment.

About KSCDCL

Established in 1985, KSCDCL manufactures products such as mats, ropes, geo-textiles, and mattresses from coconut husk. It operates 35 production units across Karnataka and plays a significant role in providing jobs in rural areas, especially for women.

Digital Outreach

As part of its outreach efforts, KSCDCL has launched a new website and is preparing to roll out an e-commerce platform to widen its market access.
