KGMU doctors perform first robotic kidney surgery on child

Lucknow: Doctors at the Department of Paediatric Surgery of King George's Medical University (KGMU) recently performed a robotic-assisted kidney surgery on a six-year-old child. The procedure was carried out with robotic assistance for the first time in the department on Ghulam Jilani, who had been suffering from recurrent pain, fever, urinary problems, and repeated infections.

Child's Condition and Treatment

The family consulted several hospitals, but the child's condition did not improve. He was later brought to KGMU, where treatment began under the supervision of Prof JD Rawat. Investigations revealed swelling in the left kidney and an obstruction at the junction of the kidney and ureter.

Surgery and Recovery

The child underwent robotic-assisted pyeloplasty on June 10. Doctors reported that he recovered rapidly after the procedure and was discharged two days later. KGMU Vice-Chancellor Soniya Nityananda congratulated the team for their successful effort.
