The Maharashtra government on Thursday signed three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with South Korean institutions to strengthen skill development and vocational training in the state. The agreements were formalized in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis at the Sahyadri state guesthouse in Mumbai.
Advanced Training Centres Based on 'Learning Factory' Model
The Directorate of Vocational Education and Training signed an agreement with Korea Polytechnics to establish advanced training centres in Maharashtra. These centres will be modelled after South Korea's 'Learning Factory' approach, focusing on modern technology, hands-on training, and industry-ready skills. The project will receive support from Ecopo, along with Korean technical institutions such as KT, KITEC, and KATECH.
Timeline and Implementation
According to the government, a strategy manual for the centres will be prepared between May and September 2026. The centres are expected to become fully operational between March 2027 and June 2028. Students will benefit from training through advanced machinery, industry-focused courses, and expert trainers, aimed at improving employment opportunities and technical skills, as stated in the press release.
This initiative marks a significant step in enhancing vocational education in Maharashtra, leveraging South Korea's expertise in technical training to equip students with skills relevant to modern industries.
