A case has been registered against a 35-year-old man in Pilibhit for allegedly blackmailing a 30-year-old married woman on Facebook, threatening to circulate their chats on social media, stalking her, and barging into her home, police said on Thursday.
Complaint Details
The case came to light after Yogesh Dixit, a resident of the Bisalpur municipal council area, lodged a complaint against Shubham Sharma of Bilsanda town. Dixit alleged that Shubham had compelled his wife, Amrapali, to chat with him on Facebook a year ago by threatening to consume poison if she refused. The accused also allegedly warned that he would implicate her in a case of abetment to suicide.
Escalation of Threats
Dixit told police that when his wife stopped chatting with Shubham, the accused threatened her again to make their conversations public. He later obtained her mobile number and began stalking her, forcing her to change her SIM card. On Wednesday, Shubham allegedly barged into the complainant’s house with two associates and asked Yogesh’s younger brother, Arpit, to call Amrapali. He allegedly took out sulphas, a highly toxic pesticide, and threatened to consume it to implicate the family in a criminal case. When Arpit resisted, Shubham and his colleagues allegedly abused and assaulted him.
Legal Action
Bisalpur Kotwali SHO Sanjiv Shukla said a case has been registered against Shubham and his associates under sections 333 (house trespass), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult), 351(3) (criminal intimidation) and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
