Man dupes woman of Rs 5.6 lakh on job pretext after matrimonial site contact

A case of cheating has been registered by Misrod police in Bhopal against a man who allegedly defrauded a 30-year-old woman and her sisters of Rs 5.6 lakh. The accused, identified as Sharad Patidar, befriended the complainant through a matrimonial website and promised to arrange jobs for her sisters.

How the fraud unfolded

According to police, the complainant, Reema (name changed), a resident of a colony in Misrod, came in contact with Patidar through a matrimonial platform. During their interactions, Patidar gained her trust and assured her that he could help secure employment for her siblings. Believing his promises, the complainant and her sisters transferred a total of Rs 5.60 lakh to the accused via online transactions between September 2024 and subsequent months.

Accused fails to deliver or refund

Police stated that despite receiving the money, the accused neither arranged any jobs nor returned the entire amount. When the family repeatedly demanded a refund, he allegedly avoided them and behaved rudely. After persistent pressure and threats of legal action, he reportedly returned around Rs 1 lakh but failed to refund the remaining sum. The complainant further alleged that the accused later blocked her mobile number and stopped responding to calls and messages, causing financial loss and mental distress.
