Menthra, an emotional wellbeing platform built on the belief that people can resolve their struggles rather than merely manage them, has officially launched in India as its first market. Founded by serial entrepreneur and technologist Dinakara Nagalla, the US-headquartered platform emerged from a beta phase with 30,000 users and a network of 500 therapists, coaches, and wellbeing professionals.
Addressing India's Emotional Wellbeing Gap
India was chosen as the initial market due to its vast underserved population for emotional wellbeing. Clinical care remains scarce, stigmatized, and unaffordable for many, leading millions to turn to generic AI tools not designed for emotional support. Menthra aims to fill this void with a purpose-built platform that prioritizes multilingual accessibility and culturally grounded care.
Platform Features and Continuum of Care
Users can access Menthra anytime, communicating in Hindi, Hinglish, or English, with conversations that maintain continuity. The platform offers three layers of support:
- Companions: Round-the-clock emotional support with full anonymity.
- Coaches and Mentors: Deeper work on growth, life transitions, and relationships.
- Menthra Care India: Clinical care led by NIMHANS-trained psychiatrists.
Most users find resolution within the companion and coaching layers, while those needing clinical care have a clear pathway. The platform integrates HIPAA-aligned data practices and supports regional languages as core features.
Founder's Vision
Dinakara Nagalla, founder and CEO, brings over two decades of experience building mission-critical systems. He stated, "Most platforms help people cope. We built Menthra to help people resolve. We are starting in India because India needs it most. The vision is global because the gap is global." His book Becoming Human and TEDx talk The Algorithm That Broke Me reflect his personal conviction.
Workplace Pilots and Future Plans
During beta, Menthra initiated workplace wellbeing pilots with Indian enterprises and established a clinical advisory board. The company, operating through Menthra India Private Limited and parent Menthra Inc., has a core team of about 35 across India and the US. Future plans include scaling individual adoption, expanding workplace partnerships, growing the therapist network, and introducing youth and family wellbeing offerings.
