Kanpur: A suicidal alert generated by Meta and prompt action by police saved a 30-year-old man from attempting suicide in Kanpur after a dispute with his fiancée. Police reached his house within seven minutes of receiving the alert and safely brought him down from a noose.
Incident Details
The incident occurred around 9 pm on June 12 in Sen Paschim Para area of Yashodanagar. According to police, the man, identified as Sarvesh Gaud, was under mental stress after an argument with his fiancée and allegedly decided to end his life. Before the attempt, he uploaded an Instagram video showing himself preparing a noose.
Alert and Response
Meta’s suicidal alert system detected the content and sent an alert to the Social Media Centre at the police headquarters in Lucknow. The information was immediately forwarded to Kanpur Police’s media cell. Sub-Inspector Gopi Krishna and Constable Shailendra Singh collected the man’s location, mobile number and other details and passed the information to Sen Paschim Para police.
Acting swiftly, Sub-Inspector Kadir Khan and Sub-Inspector Harveer Singh, along with a police team, rushed to the spot and reached the house within seven minutes. Police intervened in time and safely rescued the man before he could take the extreme step.
Aftermath
During questioning, Sarvesh told police that he had a dispute with his fiancée, who subsequently blocked his number, leaving him distressed and prompting the suicide attempt. Police later counselled the man and ensured his safety.
