Microsoft Unveils $99 E7 Office Tier with Advanced AI, 65% Pricier Than E5
Microsoft's $99 E7 Office Plan Boosts AI Features for Enterprises

Microsoft Introduces Premium E7 Office Subscription with Advanced AI Capabilities

Microsoft has announced a new top-tier subscription for its Office productivity suite, Microsoft 365 E7, priced at $99 per user per month. This represents a significant 65% increase compared to the current E5 plan, which costs $60 after upcoming price adjustments. The E7 bundle is designed to attract enterprise customers by incorporating advanced artificial intelligence tools aimed at boosting productivity and workflow efficiency.

What the Microsoft 365 E7 Plan Includes

The new E7 tier combines several premium add-ons to provide a comprehensive AI-enhanced experience. According to a report by CNBC, Microsoft has confirmed that Copilot upgrades and the launch of the E7 tier will take place on May 1, 2026. The plan features:

  • Copilot AI ($30) – Microsoft's flagship AI assistant integrated into Office applications, offering intelligent support for tasks like document creation and data analysis.
  • Entra Identity Tools ($12) – Enhanced identity and access management solutions to secure organizational data and streamline user authentication.
  • Agent 365 ($15) – A novel product for managing companies' AI agents, facilitating the deployment and oversight of automated workflows.

Together, these components are engineered to help organizations securely implement AI across their operations, driving efficiency and innovation in daily tasks.

Launch of Copilot Cowork Alongside E7

In conjunction with the E7 release, Microsoft is rolling out Copilot Cowork, developed in collaboration with Anthropic. This tool is specifically designed to handle multi-step tasks, such as sending secure emails, preparing meeting materials, and coordinating internal communications. Copilot Cowork will be available this month as a research preview for clients enrolled in Microsoft's Frontier program, which grants early access to cutting-edge AI features.

Microsoft's Strategic Push into AI Monetization

Microsoft has invested over $100 billion in data center infrastructure, including Nvidia chips, to power its AI models. By bundling AI capabilities into Office subscriptions, the company aims to generate substantial returns on this massive investment. Judson Althoff, CEO of Microsoft's commercial business, emphasized that the new E7 tier is expected to drive adoption of Copilot and encourage more organizations to upgrade from the E5 plan.

Microsoft 365 commercial products and cloud services accounted for 30% of the company's revenue in the December quarter. While seat growth has slowed to 6%, Microsoft is increasingly focusing on monetizing each user through AI add-ons. CEO Satya Nadella recently disclosed that 15 million Copilot seats have been sold, representing approximately 3% of commercial Microsoft 365 subscriptions, highlighting the growing demand for AI-enhanced productivity tools.
