Commuters across Bengaluru faced major disruptions in their daily travel plans as Namma Metro services came to an unexpected halt on Wednesday due to a significant technical malfunction.
The technical glitch affected both the Purple and Green lines simultaneously, bringing metro operations to a standstill during crucial commuting hours. Thousands of passengers were left stranded at various stations across the city, with many forced to seek alternative transportation options.
Widespread Impact Across Key Routes
The disruption impacted the entire network, affecting crucial connectivity between eastern and western parts of the city through the Purple Line, while the Green Line's operations were also completely suspended. Station authorities reported massive crowds building up at major hubs as announcements about the technical issues were made.
Immediate Response and Restoration Efforts
Metro officials immediately sprang into action, with technical teams working round the clock to identify and resolve the issue. Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) officials assured passengers that restoring normal services was their top priority.
"Our technical teams are working on war footing to resolve the glitch," said a senior BMRCL official. "We understand the inconvenience caused to our passengers and are doing everything possible to restore normalcy at the earliest."
Passenger Frustration Mounts
Commuters expressed their frustration on social media platforms, with many sharing pictures of crowded stations and long queues for alternative transport. Regular metro users highlighted how such disruptions significantly impact their daily schedules and work commitments.
The incident has raised questions about the technical robustness of the city's metro infrastructure, especially as Bengaluru increasingly relies on Namma Metro for daily commuting needs.
