The Gujarat government announced on Sunday that the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Gandhinagar has earned international recognition, having provided training to personnel from 96 countries in investigation and security. The institution currently operates 13 campuses both domestically and internationally.
Establishment and Status
Established in 2009 in Gandhinagar under the leadership of then Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, NFSU was granted the status of 'Institution of National Importance (INI)' in October 2020.
According to an official statement, representatives from 96 countries have undergone high-level forensic science training at the university. Many nations have requested the Indian government to establish NFSU campuses in their respective countries.
Mobile Forensic Investigation Vans
To expedite scientific crime investigation and present accurate evidence in court, NFSU has developed state-of-the-art mobile forensic investigation vans manufactured in India. These vans operate 24/7, staffed by skilled experts and equipped with special forensic kits. Over 300 such mobile services are operational in more than 17 states and Union Territories across the country.
Innovation and Exports
NFSU has established a Forensic Innovation Council and a Forensic Innovation Center. Through this project, more than 20 Make-in-India products prepared for forensic investigation by the central government are being exported to countries including the United States, Australia, Israel, Singapore, and various European nations.
Center of Excellence for Nutritional Testing
A special Center of Excellence for Nutritional Testing for Sportspersons (CoE-NSTS) has been launched to test athletes' nutrition and detect prohibited substances, the government stated.
