Nagpur University (NU) has postponed six undergraduate semester examinations for backlog students originally scheduled on June 21 to July 11, citing a clash with the NEET-UG re-test. The decision was announced through a notification from the university's examination section.
Reason for Postponement
The postponement was necessitated because several examination centres would be unavailable due to the National Testing Agency's (NTA) NEET-UG retest on the same day. University officials defended the move as a precautionary measure. "If the government requisitioned additional centres for NEET at the last moment, our examinations could have been disrupted. We decided to avoid such uncertainty," an official explained.
Criticism Over Decision
The decision has faced scrutiny as the affected backlog examinations involve a relatively small number of candidates. Critics question whether the university could have arranged alternative centres instead of postponing the papers. A BA fifth-semester student expressed concern: "This was my backlog examination, and I was hoping the result would be declared early. Now that the exam will be held on July 11, it is unlikely that the result will be out before August. How am I supposed to apply elsewhere?"
Examinations Affected
The postponed examinations include:
- BA first semester (CBCS)
- BA third semester (CBCS)
- BA fifth semester (CBCS and old course)
- BSc first semester (old course)
- BSc third semester
- BSc fifth semester
Under the revised schedule, examination timings remain unchanged: morning sessions from 9:30am to 12:30pm and afternoon sessions from 2:30pm to 5:30pm. University officials clarified that only these six examinations have been rescheduled.
Impact on Academic Calendar
The postponement is likely to further delay the already stretched summer exam cycle. The university has been holding exams even on Sundays in recent weeks to expedite the schedule. Students affected by the decision worry about the impact on their academic plans, as results may now be delayed until after July.
