Odisha universities told to onboard students on Shaktishree app

The higher education department of Odisha issued a directive on Wednesday, instructing all public universities and colleges under its administrative control to facilitate the onboarding of as many students as possible onto the Shaktishree mobile application and promote its active usage.

In an official letter addressed to registrars and principals, the department explained that the application was developed to enhance safety, awareness, counselling, grievance support, and overall well-being of students enrolled in higher educational institutions across the state. The Shaktishree mobile application was recently launched by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi in the presence of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Designed as a dedicated digital support platform for students, Shaktishree offers a range of student-centric features. These include SOS assistance, safety check-ins, counselling services, grievance redressal mechanisms, institutional updates, and emergency support services. The app aims to strengthen communication channels and ensure timely assistance for students facing any challenges.

Students can register on the application using their SAMS (Students Academic Management System) ID and the mobile number registered with SAMS. During the registration process, students are required to provide details such as the name of their institution, an emergency contact number, and other necessary information to activate and access the services available on the platform.

The department emphasized that all students enrolled in higher education institutions are eligible to use the application. Institutions have been advised to create awareness among students through various means, including notices, orientation programmes, classroom communication, social media groups, and other suitable platforms, to encourage downloads and registrations.

This initiative is part of the state government's efforts to leverage technology for student welfare. By ensuring widespread adoption of the Shaktishree app, the department hopes to provide a robust support system that addresses the diverse needs of students, particularly in emergency situations. The app is expected to serve as a vital tool for fostering a safer and more supportive educational environment across Odisha.
