RBI Launches Reelathon 2026 to Combat Cyber Financial Frauds

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), Thiruvananthapuram, has launched the RBI Reelathon 2026, an awareness campaign designed to engage college students in the fight against cyber-enabled financial frauds. The campaign was inaugurated by Director General of Police (DGP) Ravada A Chandrasekhar at a function held at the RBI office in Thiruvananthapuram.

Addressing the gathering, the DGP stated that cyber fraud has evolved into a major social challenge affecting people across all sections of society. He noted that victims often suffer not only financial losses but also emotional distress and psychological trauma. Warning against emerging threats such as fraudulent investment schemes, digital arrest scams, illegal loan apps, fake job offers, and mule account networks, he said cybercriminals are increasingly targeting young people through social engineering tactics and misuse of digital platforms.

Emphasizing the importance of the “golden hour” in cybercrime reporting, he urged the public to promptly report incidents through official channels to improve the chances of freezing fraudulent transactions and recovering funds. Calling on students to become cyber safety ambassadors, Chandrasekhar encouraged them to use their creativity and social influence to spread awareness about online financial fraud. He also announced that the best awareness content created through the competition would be promoted on the official social media platforms of Kerala Police.
