Roblox has launched two new age-based account types in India, Roblox Kids and Roblox Select, as part of its global rollout. The accounts automatically sort every user under 16 into a tier that matches their games, chat access, and parental controls to their age, then ease those limits as the child grows older.
India is included in the worldwide release, following a smaller debut last month in Australia, Indonesia, the Netherlands, and New Zealand. The account a child receives depends on Roblox's age verification process, which uses either a government ID or a quick facial scan via the device camera. Roblox states that those images are deleted once processing is complete.
Roblox Kids vs Roblox Select: How Access Changes with Age
The two tiers offer distinct experiences. Roblox Kids, designed for ages 5 to 8, enforces the strictest settings: only games rated Minimal or Mild that have passed an extra review are accessible, and chat is turned off completely unless a linked parent allows it. Roblox Select, for ages 9 to 15, includes games rated up to Moderate and allows chat to open up gradually based on age and region. A child moves from Kids to Select at age 9, then to a standard account at 16.
Getting a game into these catalogs is more challenging for developers. They must verify their identity, lock down their account, and pay a subscription or a refundable publishing fee. Games centered on social hangouts, free-form drawing, or sensitive themes are excluded entirely.
Block Games, Cap Spending, Manage Chat Until 16
For Indian parents, the controls may be more important than the tiers. A linked parent account can block specific games, manage chat, set screen-time and spending caps, and approve individual games their child wants. Many of these controls now extend until the child turns 16.
Vineeta Garg, IT Head at SRDAV Public School and a member of Roblox's Global Parent Council, welcomed the launch as a meaningful step toward safer, age-appropriate play. Roblox also plans to adopt the IARC content-rating standard later this year.
