A state-of-the-art STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) laboratory has been established at PM SHRI Dakshina Kannada zilla panchayat Higher Primary School at Hoohaakuvakallu in Balepuni gram panchayat limits. The lab was set up at a cost of Rs 2.4 lakh with support from donors through the Jana Shikshana Trust.
Modern Learning Facility
The STEM lab is a modern learning facility that enables students to learn science, technology, engineering and mathematics through hands-on experiments. The facility allows students to independently use equipment and conduct practical activities, helping them understand complex concepts with ease. It also encourages innovation, creativity and scientific thinking while equipping children with foundational skills required for technology-driven careers.
Benefiting Students
The school offers both Kannada and English medium education from LKG to Class 8, with a total strength of 586 students. The newly established STEM lab is expected to benefit students from classes 5 to 8. The school is also expected to be upgraded to include high school classes, extending the benefits of the laboratory to secondary school students as well.
Donor Support
According to Krishna Moolya, director of Jana Shikshana Trust, the facility was sponsored by NC Murthy and Dr Jeevan to provide quality educational opportunities to rural children studying in government schools. The donors are also supporting a special English communication and life-skills learning programme in 10 schools under Ullal taluk.
Training and Future Impact
A team led by Akshay of Experimind Labs, Nitte, will provide teachers with the necessary training and guidance on the use and maintenance of the laboratory. The initiative is expected to enhance the learning environment in the government school and attract more students by offering modern educational facilities comparable to those available in private institutions.
