A software engineer who left a comfortable job at a multinational corporation (MNC) to join a startup valued at $600 million is now regretting the decision. Despite earning a ₹27 LPA salary package, the techie shared his frustration on Reddit, stating that he "hates" the new role and wants to return to the corporate world.
The Background
The engineer previously worked as a Generative AI engineer at an MNC, earning around ₹1.25 lakh per month while working only 1-2 hours daily. Concerned about career growth and staying relevant in the tech industry, he switched to a startup with a $600 million valuation. However, just three weeks into the new job, he began to regret the move.
Issues at the Startup
Colleagues warned him about his manager's micromanagement style, which was confirmed during a one-on-one meeting. Additionally, the work did not involve the technologies he had hoped to explore. "This role clearly doesn't align with my long-term career goals and I want to move on. I'm willing to go for a lesser salary, I hate it here," he wrote. He admitted missing his former workplace and the importance of a great manager and team.
Long-Term Goals Misaligned
In a comment, he explained that his long-term goals involve designing and building systems. During the interview, he was told he could work on internal services 50% of the time, but after joining, he was forced to work 100% on what the company wanted. He plans to move again after completing three months at the startup.
Social Media Reactions
Users shared similar experiences. One wrote, "Broo even me facing same situation, but only difference is that even my old company is shit but the present one is worse no growth." Another requested the company name for a job opportunity. Some suggested he talk to his previous manager, to which he replied that he plays badminton with his old team weekly and would ask. Others noted that good startups can offer low workload, while some said MNCs can also be problematic.
