Telegram Challenges NEET-UG Ban in Delhi High Court

NEW DELHI: Russian messaging platform Telegram on Tuesday moved the Delhi High Court, challenging the Centre's decision to ban the app ahead of the NEET-UG re-test. According to news agency ANI, Telegram mentioned the matter before a bench of Justice Tejas Karia, which agreed to hear the petition later in the day.

Centre's Temporary Ban

The Centre recently ordered a temporary ban on Telegram ahead of the NEET-UG re-examination scheduled for June 21, citing concerns over the circulation of exam-related content and potential misuse of the platform. The government's move aims to prevent any leak or unfair practices during the crucial medical entrance exam.

Telegram's Judicial Intervention

Telegram has now sought judicial intervention against the government's decision, arguing against the temporary restriction imposed before the examination. The platform contends that the ban is disproportionate and infringes on users' rights to communication and information.
