Vi is expanding its 5G services across West Bengal, with the telecom operator announcing the availability of its next-generation network in three new cities and plans to launch in seven more locations by June. This move follows the earlier rollout of Vi 5G in Kolkata and Siliguri last year.
Current and Upcoming Vi 5G Cities
Vi 5G is currently live in Malda, Haldia, and Berhampur. In the coming weeks, the service will be extended to Durgapur, Asansol, Habra-Ashoknagar, Burdwan, Kharagpur, Gangtok, and Darjeeling.
Strategic Rollout Focus
According to the company, the rollout strategy prioritizes industrial centers, commercial hubs, high-data-consumption regions, and tourism-driven markets. Durgapur and Asansol are identified as industrial hubs, while Haldia serves as a key port and commercial center. Tourism-focused destinations like Darjeeling and Gangtok are also part of the expansion.
Sovan Mukherjee, Business Head of Kolkata, Rest Of Bengal, Assam and North-East at Vi, commented: "We are accelerating the expansion of Vi's 5G network across West Bengal, as we strengthen our footprint across key markets in the region. Following our earlier launches in Kolkata and Siliguri, our rollouts in Malda, Haldia, and Behrampur followed by Durgapur, Asansol, Habra-Ashoknagar, Burdwan, Kharagpur, Gangtok, and Darjeeling mark important steps in our journey."
The broader rollout aims to address growing demand for high-speed connectivity and support digital infrastructure across these regions. Mukherjee added: "Our expansion is guided by a clear focus on prioritising high demand locations spanning high data consumption centres as well as areas with significant footfall, including industrial, commercial and tourism hubs, ensuring a consistent and enhanced network experience for our users."
This latest expansion adds to Vi's ongoing 5G deployment efforts as telecom operators continue to extend next-generation network coverage beyond metro cities into regional markets.
