Meta is expanding the 'view once' feature to WhatsApp text messages, aiming to enhance user privacy and security. Currently under testing, this feature allows users to send text messages that can only be viewed once by the recipient before disappearing.
How the Feature Works
When a user sends a 'view once' text message, the recipient cannot take screenshots, screen record, save, or forward the message. This prevents misuse or unauthorized distribution of sensitive content. The feature is designed for sharing confidential information, such as passwords or personal details, with friends, colleagues, or family.
Extension of Existing Feature
Previously, the 'view once' option was available only for voice notes, images, and videos. Now, Meta is testing it for text messages, further strengthening privacy controls on the platform.
Additional Testing: Contacts Hub
In addition to the 'view once' feature, WhatsApp is also testing a 'contacts hub' that displays active contacts in one place. This aims to help users initiate conversations more easily by showing who is currently available.
Boosting User Confidence
The new feature is expected to boost user confidence in sending sensitive messages. By ensuring that messages disappear after being read and cannot be captured or shared, WhatsApp provides a safer environment for private communication.
