Xiaomi has officially launched its 17T series in the European market, introducing two new models: the standard 17T and the higher-end 17T Pro. For the first time in the T-series lineup, both devices are equipped with a Leica-tuned 5x periscope telephoto camera, marking a significant upgrade in mobile photography capabilities.
Leica Periscope Telephoto Camera: A First for the T-Series
The headline feature across both the Xiaomi 17T and 17T Pro is the new 50-megapixel periscope telephoto lens. This unit boasts a 115mm equivalent focal length, an f/3 aperture, optical image stabilization (OIS), and delivers 10x optical-quality zoom. With the help of AI Ultra Zoom technology, users can push the zoom up to an impressive 120x. Both phones also include a 50-megapixel main camera with a Leica UltraPure optical design and a 12-megapixel ultrawide sensor. The main camera sensor differs between the two models: the Pro variant features a larger Type 1/1.31 chip, while the standard 17T uses a Type 1/1.55 sensor.
Leica Live Moment Feature
Xiaomi has introduced a new Leica Live Moment feature on both devices. This function captures a short video burst with every photo taken and employs artificial intelligence to select the sharpest frame as the final still image. It works across all focal lengths, including portrait mode, enhancing the photography experience.
India Launch and Specifications
The Xiaomi 17T is set to launch in India on June 4, marking the return of the T-series to the country after a three-year hiatus. Only the standard 17T model will be available in India, and Xiaomi India has been teasing it as "The Telephoto Master." Expected specifications include a 6.59-inch 1.5K display with a 144Hz refresh rate, a Dimensity 8500 Ultra chipset, a massive 6,500mAh battery with 67W HyperCharge support, and an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. In Europe, the base 12GB/256GB model of the 17T is priced at €749 (approximately Rs 71,000), while the 17T Pro starts at €899 (around Rs 85,000).
