Yatra Forges Strategic Alliance with Google Cloud to Revolutionize Corporate Travel
In a significant move poised to reshape the landscape of business travel in India, Yatra Online Limited has announced a comprehensive partnership with Google Cloud. This collaboration centers on leveraging Google's advanced multimodal artificial intelligence, specifically the Gemini model hosted on Vertex AI, to fundamentally overhaul how Indian professionals plan, book, and manage their corporate travel expenses.
Gemini AI Powers Core Yatra Products: DIYA and RECAP
The partnership strategically positions Google's cutting-edge Gemini AI at the very core of two of Yatra's flagship enterprise products. These are the DIYA conversational booking agent and the RECAP corporate expense management tool. Both platforms are undergoing a substantial technological rebuild, transitioning from mere information providers to proactive, task-executing assistants.
The enhanced DIYA platform utilizes Gemini's sophisticated natural language processing capabilities to handle complex, multi-step travel requests within a single, fluid conversation. For instance, an employee can simply instruct DIYA to find a suitable flight, automatically verify it against the company's specific travel policy, and proceed to complete the booking—all seamlessly. This is enabled through advanced Function Calling technology, which allows the AI to interact directly and in real-time with Yatra's internal application programming interfaces (APIs).
Critically, to ensure accuracy and policy compliance, the system employs Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG). This technique grounds the AI's responses in Yatra's proprietary travel databases and frequently asked questions, rather than relying on generic internet data. This is essential for maintaining strict adherence to corporate travel guidelines and budgets.
Streamlining Expense Management with AI Vision and Voice
On the financial side, the RECAP expense tool is being supercharged with Gemini's powerful vision analytics and optical character recognition (OCR) capabilities. Employees can now simply point their smartphone camera at a paper or digital receipt. The AI will instantly scan the document, accurately extract all relevant data such as date, vendor, and amount, and log it automatically into the expense report.
A particularly practical upgrade is the introduction of voice-based expense logging. This feature allows weary professionals to verbally dictate and file expenses, such as a hotel bill, late at night after a long day of meetings—eliminating the tedious manual entry often associated with travel reimbursement.
Building an Integrated Travel Ecosystem
Yatra's Chief Executive Officer, Siddhartha Gupta, emphasized that this technological leap is a decisive move toward creating "a truly integrated travel ecosystem" for corporate clients. He highlighted that the entire AI infrastructure will operate on the secure and scalable Google Cloud platform. Importantly, all of Yatra's sensitive enterprise and customer data will be kept entirely separate from Google's public model training pipelines, ensuring data privacy and security for corporate clients.
This partnership marks a pivotal shift in the business travel sector, aiming to reduce administrative burdens, enhance policy compliance, and provide a more intuitive, efficient experience for the modern Indian business traveler through the power of generative artificial intelligence.
