AIIMS Faculty Demands Compensation, Reforms After NEET-UG 2026 Cancellation
AIIMS Faculty Seeks Compensation, Reforms After NEET Cancellation

The Faculty Association of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (FAIMS) has termed the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 examination as deeply distressing for lakhs of medical aspirants. In a representation to the ministries of education and health, along with the AIIMS director, the faculty body has demanded compensation for affected students, a fast-track investigation into the alleged paper leak, and comprehensive reforms in the national examination system.

Impact on Students and Families

FAIMS highlighted that over 22 lakh candidates appeared for the exam this year out of nearly 22.75 lakh registered aspirants. Students from hundreds of cities had invested years of preparation and significant financial resources. The association noted that repeated paper leaks have severely shaken public faith in national examinations, causing unprecedented mental trauma, uncertainty, and economic burden on students and their families.

Demands for Compensation and Investigation

While welcoming the decision to refund examination fees and conduct a fresh test without additional charges, FAIMS deemed these measures grossly inadequate. The association demanded reimbursement for travel, accommodation, and other incidental expenses incurred by candidates and their families due to the cancellation. Additionally, FAIMS called for a fast-track investigation and prosecution of all individuals involved in the alleged paper leak, including any institutional or insider involvement, with public disclosure of findings. The representation was signed by FAIMS president Dr. Amarinder Singh Malhi and general secretary Dr. Keshav Goyal.

Proposed Reforms

FAIMS proposed the establishment of an independent Examination Integrity Commission with statutory authority and cyber-security experts to oversee national examinations and prevent future leaks. The association also sought mental health support for NEET aspirants, age relaxation for affected candidates, and a review of the National Testing Agency's governance mechanisms.
