Tragic Suicide of Bengaluru Techie Couple Minutes Apart
In a heartbreaking incident, a young techie couple who had recently relocated from Hyderabad to Bengaluru died by suicide within minutes of each other at their apartment in the Kothanur area. Police confirmed the tragic events, which unfolded on Tuesday morning, revealing a story of personal struggle and despair.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Tragedy
According to investigators, the husband, Bhanu Chander Reddy, aged 32, was discovered deceased inside a locked bedroom. His wife, Bibi Shaziya Siraj, 31, died shortly afterward after jumping from the 18th floor of the same apartment complex. The chain of events began when Shaziya returned home from her night shift at approximately 7:30 AM.
Upon finding her husband unresponsive and the bedroom door locked from the inside, Shaziya immediately alerted the building's security staff. Security guards promptly broke open the door, where they found Reddy's body. A suicide note was recovered from a table within the room, providing crucial insight into the motivations behind this devastating act.
Disturbing Details from the Suicide Note
In his purported note, Reddy explicitly blamed job loss and mounting anxiety for his decision. Police revealed that Reddy had previously worked in the United States, where he earned an impressive annual package of Rs 80 lakh. His family disclosed that he had purchased a small house in the US and built another property in Telangana for his family.
However, the situation took a drastic turn when Reddy lost his job, reportedly due to advancements in artificial intelligence. This professional setback shattered him emotionally, and his anxiety intensified when he failed to secure another position. Despite having supportive family members and a caring wife, the psychological burden proved overwhelming.
Shaziya's Final Moments and Background Information
Police accounts indicate that Shaziya remained at the scene for approximately twenty minutes after her husband's body was discovered. During this time, neighbors gathered and emergency services were contacted. Amid the ensuing commotion, she is believed to have left unnoticed, taken the elevator to the 18th floor, and jumped to her death.
The couple had been married for around two-and-a-half years, but only Reddy's parents were aware of their relationship. Friends and colleagues informed police that Shaziya had not disclosed the marriage to her own family. This secrecy created additional strain, as they initially stayed in Hyderabad but found it difficult to maintain their hidden relationship from relatives.
Relocation to Bengaluru and Ongoing Struggles
Approximately eight months prior to the tragedy, the couple moved to Bengaluru after Shaziya secured employment with multinational technology giant IBM. Reddy had returned to India following his job loss in the US and had been actively seeking new opportunities without success.
They were residing on the eighth floor of Tower 6 in an apartment complex located on Thanisandra Main Road. Officers confirmed that Reddy had been grappling with anxiety directly linked to his unemployment since their relocation. On the Sunday night before the incident, Shaziya had spoken with her husband shortly before leaving Hyderabad. He mentioned ordering dinner online and planning to eat soon, showing no immediate indication of the impending tragedy.
Police continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding this double suicide, examining all aspects of the couple's personal and professional lives. The case highlights the severe psychological impact of job insecurity and the pressures faced by professionals in the rapidly evolving technology sector.
